As a creative soul, Morgan McLeod always knew that her involvement in her wedding to Brad Kennedy would go beyond decisions about flowers, dresses and catering, and involve a more hands-on, DIY approach.
Armed with ample inspiration gained through hours scouring Pinterest and scrolling through Instagram, Morgan set about making a number of key elements for her April 29, 2017 wedding.
“I’ve always been creative and liked doing things myself, so it wasn’t really a question of whether I’d be making elements of the wedding, I just wanted to do as much as I could,” she said.
Although plagued by initial concern about the outcome of some of the elements, Morgan’s fears were quickly allayed as she saw her work come together, with the table numbers, invitations, lawn games and even her handmade veil creating the perfect feel for the couple’s relaxed vintage wedding.
The table centrepieces featured deep burgundy, creams and golden tones, while disposable cameras allowed guests to capture their own memories of the day that the bride and groom could then enjoy.
“Those photos were some of the best pictures of the day,” Morgan said.
“They really allowed our guests to capture the day and meant we had photos of so many great moments.”
Where things weren’t made by the couple, they incorporated family heirlooms to the festivities, bringing together both function and sentiment.
“The signing table we used was the exact one my parents used as their signing table at their wedding in 1983,” Morgan said.
“One of the rings I wore on my wedding day belonged to my great-grandmother and was given to her by her husband in 1912. My sister Chelsea wore the same ring at her wedding in September 2016, as my mum did when she married my dad.”
Morgan said it was important for her and Brad to include family in the day, so when Brad’s grandfather couldn’t make it to their wedding due to illness, they organised for the ceremony to be Skyped so he could enjoy the special moment with the couple.
“It was lovely,” Morgan said.
